A version for tumblr that can be read without opening a new tab, since plenty of people would scroll past this story otherwise.

TRUE STORY… Back in the good ol’ 90’s my pals and I put out a kind of alt-rock compilation of songs by various bands from Austin. We called it God-Stripe Gum and I drew the cover posted here. We sent it off to be printed/duplicated in Canada. Shortly thereafter the following news clip appeared in a Canadian paper…
DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. (CP) - Prime Minister Jean Chretien couldn’t believe his luck when he arrived at a CD manufacturer for a photo opportunity. There, stacked in the thousands, were CD Roms with the title “Tax Cuts Deluxe,” intended to help people figure out their taxes. Chretien, whose government introduced big tax cuts in a mini-budget before the election, couldn’t resist getting close. A beaming Chretien used them as a prop, standing in real close for the flashing cameras. But reporters were much more interested in a stack of CDs they discovered before the prime minister arrived entitled “God Stripe Gum.” Each CD had pictures of cartoon characters on top, with dialogue bubbles that said “Tastes just like Jesus Christ” and “I’m chewing on God.” When reporters started asking questions about the CDs, the cart that held them suddenly disappeared. Later, the cart was rediscovered in a different part of the building. But the questions went unanswered.

CAVE TOUR
The kids and I went on a cave tour yesterday. It was fascinating! We already knew all about stalagmites and stalactites, but none of us had ever heard of cave pizzas. Evidently there are tiny cheese, bread, and tomato particles in the water sifting through the earth’s surface. It deposits these particles in certain locations throughout the caverns. Every thousand years or so a cave pizza forms. They’re delicious. You’re not supposed to eat the crusts.
There were no bats in this cave, and surprisingly no spiders. But the guide did take us to see a herd of cave giraffes. Cave giraffes so stupid! They think they can live down there, but they have to live their whole lives bent over. They’re born with backaches.
There were a lot of tight passages and narrow steep stairways. Although everything was very delicate, the guide told us we could touch anything we wanted—except the handrails. Those are still forming.
On Saturdays they have a special kind of tour where you go through the cavern on a motorcycle at top speed. Sounds fun!
At the deepest spot the guide showed us a rock formation that looked like it could’ve been the cave’s brain. And guess what. It was the cave’s brain. Everyone was grossed out. Someone threw up. I don’t know what that cave was thinking. I wonder if it will remember us.
There was so much nature in that cavern! I had to get a to-go box because I couldn’t finish mine.
At the end of the tour I almost got in trouble when I tried to shake the guide’s hand. He was one of the things you’re not supposed to touch.
On the way home I used my new GPS that guides by smell to find a restaurant that served only sound effects.

I entered a game design contest at SXSW a few years ago and won first place! Hurray for me. EA subsequently created a prototype of the game. Here’s the intro movie, pieced together with characters from the Ted Zone and narrated by Chris Gibson. Thanks to Buzz Moran for additional sound work.

Movie production is moving right along! I’ve finally starting animating a scene with Twomey’s trainer, Al. For me, Al is one of the most important characters to the story. I want him to be just right, so I’ve put him through quite a few rounds of re-design. I always knew that his character design wouldn’t be 100% until his first shot in the film was underway— and now it is.
I’m including a lineup here of Al designs, chronologically from left to right. I drew the one on the far left about three years ago. Then I started revising him about six months ago, producing the next several images. I was almost settled on number 6 (second from the right), until I started his first scene. Then I went back and redrew him as a very close revision of that 3-year-old original design. I’m very happy with the outcome. And a huge ‘thank you’ goes out to David Blackwell who gave Al his voice. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0085893/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

Here’s an oldie. Started this way back in 2001 and never made it to the finish line. Maybe when Boxer Story is done, I’ll go back and make it whole.
